Sarawak Energy Development Plan for Next 30 Years

To ask the Minister of Public Utilities (Written Answer):

8. State a detailed plan of energy development in the State for the next 30 years including:

(a) The forecast of energy demand in Sarawak in relation to allexisting proposals to construct more hydroelectric dams in thefuture in the state.

(b) Existing and forecast energy generation capacities in the stateincluding current and forecast reserve margins.

(c) The costs of the construction of all the proposed dams and howfunding is intended to be secured.

(Written Answer)

(a) & (b) For the information of Ahli Yang Berhormat for Kidurong, the existing installed generating capacity in the State is about 930MW and expected to be about 10,400MW by 2020 to meet the load demand from the energy intensive industries and for export to West Malaysia, Sabah, Kalimantan and Brunei. The reserve margin by 2020 is expected to be at 17%.

(c) SEB is currently undertaking pre-feasibility and
feasibility studies of various potential hydro dams which includes determining the construction costs. These studies are expected to complete in stages depending on the start-off implementation date office project by mid 2009. The funding of the hydro dams will be raised from the external capital market and will not receive any form of Government guarantees.
